Hey guys and gals! It's time for a new journal by the magnificent Roland! Okay, I'm not really magnificent, but this is a new journal!
If you have seen my latest sketches you can see that I have been using guidelines. I used to hate guidelines, but now they are my bestest buddies in the whole wide world! It helps me draw my characters in new poses that I wouldn't even attempt a month or so ago. Besides using guidelines, I've also gotten back into writing again. I won't post anything here because the current story I'm working on isn't close to being done. I'm really liking how it's turning out. I noticed a theme in a lot of the stories that I come-up with is loneliness. One of my characters is surrounded by thousands of people, but is so out of place with everyone else around him. I guess it's because I feel like a fish-out-of-water a lot. I guess your subconscious always finds a way of putting how you feel into your stories. Sometimes I make my main characters the person I want to be. They can be more confident with themselves and not be socially awkward and shy. They have no worries and everything is right in their world. Although something always comes along and shakes things up.
So my brother,

, has been blessed with the chance to take a plethora of art classes this year, while I only got sculpture. Anyways, I have noticed that over this school year he has gotten so much better and creative. I have to admit there are times I'm jealous of his artwork. At school they put up some artwork that students had created over the school year and Lewis had a lot of his pictures hanging up. I only had a large sculpture of a bamboo stalk... Anyways, Lewis brought him his artwork yesterday and I was amazed at how good his pictures were. My two favorites was his "Vincent Van Gogh" style painting of a factory building with steam exiting the stacks and his self portrait. I really liked my brother's artwork over most of the other students' works. Mostly because his was creative and different. Most kids drew themselves, and stereotypical depressing teenage crap. Lewis's were happy or just brought a mellow, calm feeling to my mind. Don't get me wrong there were some really stunning art that other students made, but Lewis's was my favorite. I'm not just being biased because he is my brother. I really loved his work. Lewis is too humble to accept my praise though.
Anyways, talk to you guys later!
